Graphite Pencil Pet Portraits
About my Graphite pencil Pet Portraits
Graphite pencil Pet Portraits are available in all three standard sizes, 8" x 10", 12" x 16" and 20" x 24" and are a popular option.
My Pet portraits are hand drawn on Winsor & Newton 220gsm smooth surface cartridge paper. The paper is 100% acid free and 100% wood free to ensure long term stability. I use Derwent graphic sketching pencils, that are available in a range of grades from the very soft 9B to H. This wide range of grades allows me to capture the many different shades of fur and tonal variations present in a portrait. The pencils sharpened to a fine point coupled with the smooth paper enable me to portray the highly detailed pet portraits that are my trademark supplying the customer with a drawing capturing the likeness of their beloved pet.
About Graphite Pencils
Graphite is one of the physical forms in which the element carbon can be found. It was first discovered in Cumbria in about 1500. The very first pencils were made in Keswick, hand made by local people in their cottages using hand planes to shape the wood.
It was in 1832 that the first pencil factory was built in Keswick, becoming the Cumberland Pencil Company in 1916. Today the Derwent brand is still being produced in Cumbria using traditional techniques with the help of modern manufacting methods.
